 隨著Windows系統(tǒng)由Windows Vista(6.0)向Windows 7 (6.1)進(jìn)化，集成在系統(tǒng)中的一些組件和默認(rèn)程序也將會有全新的版本。最顯著的例子就是Windows Installer了。

在Windows Vista 和SP 1, Windows XP SP3, Windows Server 2008 RTM/SP1, Windows Server 2003 SP1和SP2中，微軟捆綁了Windows Installer 4.5；而在下一代的Windows 7中，將會集成Windows Installer 5.0

相對與4.5版本，Windows Installer 5.0主要是在安全性上作了改進(jìn)，從5.0開始，Windows Installer將會為用戶提供賬戶、文件、服務(wù)和注冊表等全方位的保護(hù)。同時，也會帶來全新的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)、安裝包功能、卷數(shù)據(jù)類型、屬性、數(shù)據(jù)庫平臺以及自動化界面等等。
